New Bottle Filling System To Improve Water Capacity

SYRACUSE, N.Y., December 5, 2013 – National Grid today announced a Capital Investment incentive to Nirvana Spring Water to help offset costs associated with the purchase and installation of a new bottled water filling line at the company’s headquarters in Forestport, N.Y.

“National Grid is committed to Central New York businesses and the communities we serve,” said Melanie Littlejohn, National Grid regional executive of Central New York. “This is exactly the type of project we are pleased to support. Nirvana Spring Water will increase their annual capacity and allow the company to grow, stay competitive, and better serve their customers. We find no better way to help our customers than to help companies right here in our own backyard.”

National Grid’s Capital Investment Incentive program provided Nirvana Spring Water with over $200,000 in funding to defray the cost of improvements on the bottle filling line at the company’s Forestport, N.Y. facility.

Since the inception of the program in 2003, National Grid has allocated an estimated $17 million in Capital Investment incentives to businesses across Upstate New York. This year alone the company has provided an estimated $3 million in incentives including $1 million to Central New York businesses.

“We are excited to be involved with National Grid’s Capital Investment Incentive program and very thankful to National Grid for their commitment in growing local businesses like ours in Central New York,” said Mo Rafizadeh, vice president of Nirvana Spring Water.

Improvements at the facility totaled more than $5 million and included new bottle filling equipment, packaging equipment, labeling equipment, and expected to enable Nirvana Spring Water to increase its capacity by 8 to 10 million cases of water each year. With the increased capacity, the company is also expected to create 20 new jobs in spring 2014.

National Grid’s Capital Investment Incentive program is designed to help offset costs associated with upgrading utility infrastructure to accommodate a business expansion or new construction project. Specifically, the program supports business attraction or expansion projects located in National Grid’s Upstate New York service territory.
