National Grid and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Real Estate & Development Committee are celebrating Earth Day by sponsoring and hosting an event April 22 for local businesses to demonstrate how they can green their businesses, save money on energy bills and help protect the environment.
“Building Sustainable Businesses…Green Ways to Save,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at National Grid’s MetroTech Office in Downtown Brooklyn. Participants will learn about National Grid’s energy efficiency programs and rebates. Also, there will be presentations by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The event will conclude with a mini-energy expo where participants can meet with energy experts one-on-one.
"National Grid is committed to demonstrating the power of action that each of us has in helping to address climate change,” said Joe Rende, National Grid Vice President of Energy Solutions Services for Metro New York. “On this Earth Day we are happy to work with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to help businesses reduce their carbon footprints and save money, while protecting the environment.”
“We're proud to partner with National Grid on this important event,” said Carl Hum, Brooklyn Chamber President & CEO. “Earth Day and every day is about reducing our carbon footprint and preserving our planet for tomorrow.”
While the Building Sustainable Businesses…Green Ways to Save event is free and open to all businesses, advanced registration with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is required by contacting Lori Raphael at lraphael@brooklynchamber.com or 718-875-1000 ext. 140.
For business and residential customers interested in learning more about saving energy and about valuable rebates for the installation of energy efficient products, National Grid offers a variety of energy efficiency tips and information on its web site, www.thinksmartthinkgreen.com. In addition, National Grid recently introduced Floe, a virtual polar bear (nationalgrid.com/floe), who can help site visitors analyze and measure the environmental effects of their routine daily activities, including eating, drinking, driving and making energy choices for the home. Visitors can interact with Floe or befriend another virtual polar bear and learn how positive environmental acts will help protect the environment.
