Simplified process, please complete the following:
- Complete the Expedited/Standard Interconnection Application (IA).
- Customers that qualify for Net Metering, please complete Schedule Z.
- When the retail customer (Electric Account Owner) is not the owner and/or operator of the proposed distributed generation system, the Exhibit G agreement has to be completed and signed.
- Complete the legal information document.
- Email National Grid at Distributed.Generation@us.ngrid.com
- Signed copy of the IA
- Copy of the IA check payable to National Grid (Fee Structure: $3 per kW; Minimum: $300 and Maximum: $2500)
- Signed copy of Schedule Z
- A copy of the electric bill (existing customer only*)
- Signed copy of Exhibit G (when applicable)
- Site Plan (Sample Site Plan)
- One-line diagram stamped (relay settings should appear on one-line when applicable) by an Electrical Professional Engineer. This diagram must adhere to the requirements listed in the “Standards for Interconnecting Distributed Generation” document.
- Three-line diagram for non UL-1741 certified generator, stamped by an Electrical Professional Engineer.
- Applicable schematic drawings for all protection and control circuits, relay, current circuits, relay potential circuits, and alarm/monitoring circuits (if applicable)
- Links or PDF copies of the specification sheets for the generator, protection equipment, transformer(s) and any other pieces of equipment deemed appropriate.
- Mail the IA check and first page of the signed IA to
National Grid

- National Grid will communicate with the contacts listed on the IA about the status of the application.
- Once all the initial documents are approved, the application is considered complete (application not project) and forwarded to the Engineer(s) for technical review (initial screening). Additional detailed studies may be required depending upon the size and type of generating system (non UL-1741 listed) and the outcome of the initial screening. National Grid will communicate with the customer before any study is started. See “Standards for Interconnecting Distributed Generation” for more information.
- When All required studies are complete (the initial screening as well as any additional study), National Grid will send the resulting document along with any required system modifications and an associated construction cost estimate to the customer.
- If the customer agrees with the technical review findings, National Grid will send the non-executed Interconnection Service Agreement (Exhibit F), Exhibit G (if applicable) along with a checklist (sample checklist) of pending final documents required to complete the interconnection process.
- Submit all documents required for Final Approval.
- National Grid will review the Final Approval documents and send a notification to the customer informing them that all requirements have been met or additional information is required.
- Once all Final Approval documents are accepted, National Grid will issue a meter replacement order when required.
- After the new adequate meter** is installed, National will send out the Authority to Interconnect. Customer can turn on the generating system at this point.
