Our Programs We work closely with federal and state agencies, environmental organizations, local communities, and other interested parties to maximize environmental protection in our operations. We are committed to both protecting and enhancing the environment.

Reducing Pollution We take great pride in our recycling of scrap copper, aluminum wire, aluminum cable, lead cable, iron, steel, electric equipment, transformer oil, inefficient lighting lamps and blasts, contaminated soils, wood waste and more. In addition, we have programs in Spill Prevention, Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6), Manufactured Gas Plan Site Remediation and more.

Protecting Wildlife Our dedication to wildlife can be demonstrated through our Integrated Vegetation Management Program, Osprey Nesting, support for Massachusetts Bald Eagle Survey, protection of the Blue-Spotted Salamander and assisting in the preservation of a 306-acre wildlife preserve at Salisbury Salt marsh in Salisbury, Massachusetts.

Protecting Wetlands We are a participating member in the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP), a group aiming to preserve, restore, enhance and protect aquatic habitats throughout the U.S. CWRP works in cooperation with Coastal America, a unique partnership of federal agencies, state and local governments. Minimizing Climate Change We offer our distribution customers a menu of programs and information to help them use electricity and natural gas more efficiently. We also support and contribute to the Renewable Energy Trust Fund, take an active role in photovoltaic research and alternatively-fueled and hybrid vehicles.

Conserving Natural Resources Throughout our operating area, we have donated property to communities to protect the conservation of natural resources. For the seventh year in a row, we received the Tree Line USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of Foresters. The three criteria required for this designation involve (1) quality tree care that includes work practices in compliance with the ANSI A300 standard, (2) annual worker training on pruning work practices, and (3) public tree planting and education.

Promoting Awareness We provide educational literature, posters, and videotapes for grades K-8 at no cost to schools within its service territory. All materials have an environmental, energy, or electricity and gas safety content. We also take an active role in local activities and environthons.
