Application Package

Prior to installation of the equipment a completed application package for interconnection under the SIR must be submitted to National Grid. In addition to the application packages below, other documentation may be requested by National Grid if required.

Generator type Application Requirement Submit Application to

Solar or Wind Systems 25kW or less,

Or

Eligible microCHP or fuel cells 10kW or less,

Or

Inverter based generation between 25 and 200 kW

  1. Letter of authorization signed by the utility customer naming the agent/contractor authorized to represent the utility customer
  2. Completed Form K, signed by utility customer
  3. Completed Appendix B, signed by utility customer or contractor named in the Authorization Letter
  4. A three line diagram of the system identifying all major system components and all interconnections.
  5. A copy of the manufacturers catalog cut sheets for the inverter and panel/turbine.
  6. A copy of the page Department of Public Service Certified Interconnection Equipment list containing your equipment
    Or
    a copy of the independent third party testing laboratory Listing report for the inverter indicating compliance with UL 1741 (November 2005 revision)
  7. A copy of the independent third party testing laboratory Listing report for the inverter indicating compliance with UL 1741 (November 2005 revision).
  8. A copy of the inverter manufacturer's verification test procedure(s).

Standby Service to Customers with On-Site Generation Facilities

Commercial and industrial customers with on-site generation are subject to the provisions of Service Classification No. 7, National Grid’s Sale of Standby Service to Customers with On-Site Generation Facilities, Rate Tariff (pdf).

Purchase of Electric Energy and Capacity from Customers with Qualifying On-Site Generation Facilities

  1. Completed Form G

This service is for customers with a qualifying generation facility that sells energy and capacity in excess of 100kW to National Grid (Subject to the provisions of Service Classification No. 6). For more information, view our filed Rate Tariff (pdf).
