Electric Service - Additional Information What is an ESO number?
When customers call to request Electric Service Orders, we assign them each a number, which we use to track the work order process and progress.

How can I request an Electric Service Order (ESO) and/or Gas Service Order (GSO)?
ESOs and GSOs can be obtained via our service order forms, by calling 1-800-664-6729 or you can fax your request to 1-800-882-0322.

When is an electrical inspection required?
Electrical inspections are required under any of the following conditions:

  • Electric service is newly added, upgraded and/or relocated
  • The main breaker is being replaced
  • In general, whenever the ground/neutral is broken
  • Fire has occurred at the building
  • Service has been inactive for more than 1 year

What is the lead-time for installation of new electric service?
The standard lead-time frame is 6-8 weeks, pending construction needs.

What else does National Grid require other than the inspection prior to service being energized?
If required, the right-of-way has to be cleared, and any charges paid. In addition, any grading on the site should be performed, and any appropriate contracts/applications should be signed and returned.

How much wire do we leave at the stake if National Grid does not install before inspection on underground secondary service?

Can we just move a pole to another location at National Grid's expense?
No, any relocation of facilities is fully chargeable.

At what distance back from the pole should I be thinking about an underground pad transformer?
This needs to be determined by load, location, aesthetics and local requirements. Contact your local service representative who will work with you to determine the requirements.
