Dig Safely
If you’re planning any type of excavation project, call Dig Safely New York at 1-800-962-7962 at least two full working days—and no more than 10 working days— before digging, drilling or blasting begins. This free service helps you prevent personal injury, property damage and service interruptions caused by accidentally digging into electric, gas, telephone, water, sewer or cable facilities. You can also visit their website at www.digsafelynewyork.com*.

Dig Safely New York notifies us and other participating utilities, giving us time to mark our underground wires, pipes or cables to prevent personal injury, property damage and service interruptions.

For additional information, visit the NYS Department of Labor's website: Workforce New York for information relating to Code Rule 57 and Extracts of the Labor Law.

Generators   (For additional information, please visit our Generators section.)
Please review these safety tips before installing or using a generator: Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that is colorless, odorless, tasteless and virtually impossible to detect. Common sources of carbon monoxide in the home include malfunctioning fuel-burning appliances such as hot-air furnaces, space heaters and natural gas ranges. We will respond without delay to carbon monoxide-related calls from all natural gas customers within our service area—even if you purchase natural gas from an alternative gas marketer. If you use a fuel other than natural gas, please contact your respective fuel supplier. Other sources are woodstoves, charcoal grills, motor vehicle engines, fireplaces and even burning cigarettes.
