National Grid: Energy Delivery
Transmission In the energy delivery industry, the transmission system functions in much the same way as the interstate highway system, serving as its major transport arteries. In the Northeast, we transmit electricity across a system that spans upstate New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont to customers that include local electric companies, municipalities and large commercial enterprises. As the public policy debate about restructuring of the nations's electricity industry continues, we have taken a leadership position, advocating that a well-managed transmission system is the key to enabling robust competitive electricity markets that offer customers choice, savings, and other benefits.

Our Strategy
We believe that the optimal regulatory framework for the nation's electricity system will encourage independent transmission ownership and management, and much needed investment in transmission infrastructure.
