Flexible Interconnections (Flex IX)
Flex IX is an innovative approach designed to enable Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to interconnect more quickly and at a lower cost. By applying defined operating limits alongside National Grid–approved control technologies, this solution helps reduce overall interconnection timelines and can avoid or defer certain traditional network upgrades—while continuing to maintain system safety and reliability.
The offering includes two primary pathways:
- Flex Standard
For larger projects (500 kW to 5 MW) that may be actively managed based on real-time feeder conditions, including potential curtailment. - Local Power Controller (LPC) solutions
For smaller projects (under 500 kW), mainly serving load, that are designed to operate without exporting power to the grid.
