Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program

Qualifying customers with unpaid balances may have them forgiven through a bill credit.

On January 19, Governor Hochul announced a $672 million utility assistance program to provide bill relief for New Yorkers. As a result, we are implementing the New York State approved Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program to help address the financial hardship many families, individuals and businesses are currently facing.

No action is required to receive this credit. The credit will be processed automatically by National Grid and eligible customers will receive a notice regarding their credit amount.

Eligibility:

Residential customers will have their unpaid service balances (through May 1, 2022) forgiven through a bill credit of up to $3,750.

  • If you did not receive a credit through this program in the past and you have an unpaid service balance through May 1, 2022, you may be eligible.

Small commercial customers will have their unpaid service balances (through May 1, 2022) forgiven through a bill credit of up to $7,500.

  • Small Commercial Electric Customers taking service under electric non-residential service classes with combined average monthly billed demand below 20 kW or any single demand below 40 kW.
  • Small Commercial Gas Customers using less than or equal to 750 dth of gas per year.

Important Information

  • Your service will not be disconnected for non-payment while your bill credit is being processed.
  • You will be responsible for current and future charges for service after May 1, 2022.
