Rate Filing 2019 – Long Island

New natural gas delivery rates proposed for April 2020

To continue to meet our customers’ energy needs, we filed a proposal on April 30 for new natural gas delivery* rates on Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula with the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) effective April 1, 2020. For the rest of 2019 and through March 2020, current delivery rates will stay in place.

This proposal will allow us to continue investing to make our natural gas networks safer and more reliable, move toward a cleaner energy future, and improve service to our 595,000 customers on Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula.

If approved a typical residential heating customer on Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula will see a $6.53 monthly delivery increase, equating to 6.92% (5.15% for the total bill). While the filings propose new delivery rates for one-year, National Grid is interested in exploring a multi-year rate plan settlement that would allow the company to maximize efficiencies over a three to four-year period to help lessen the monthly impact on customers’ bills.

Our proposal will undergo a thorough review by the NYS Department of Public Service and other interested parties. The process typically takes 11 months.

*Delivery rates cover our costs to operate, maintain and modernize our gas networks and are fixed by regulatory rate agreements.
