Town of Bethlehem Brings Electric Charging Stations to Several Locations to Encourage Electric Vehicle Use
Categories:
Charging your electric vehicle in the Town of Bethlehem has gotten easier with the installation of six charging stations at locations around the town. Chargers can be found at:
- Adams Street Lot near Rail Trail
- Bethlehem Town Hall
- Elm Avenue Park
“We chose specific locations where people often park their vehicle for longer periods,” said Town of Bethlehem Supervisor David VanLuven. “Our goal is to make owning an electric vehicle as easy as possible and to encourage more people to consider an electric vehicle as their next car.”
"Transitioning the Town of Bethlehem from fossil fuels needs to be our highest priority to address the current climate emergency. Electric vehicle infrastructure like we now have in Bethlehem represents one step of many needed to put us on track to achieve New York's climate goals and lay the foundation for a clean energy future," said Maureen Cunningham, Bethlehem Town Board Member and Leadership Council Member of Elected Officials to Protect America.
New York State Assembly Member Patricia Fahy (D – Albany) said, "Electrification of New York's transportation sector, our state's largest contributor of carbon emissions, is vital to meeting our ambitious climate goals and facilitating greater electric vehicle ownership. As the sponsor of legislation aimed at dramatically expanding New York's electric vehicle infrastructure, I commend Bethlehem Town Supervisor David Van Luven, NYSERDA, and National Grid for their continued work on reducing range anxiety for EV owners and exemplifying how state and local governments can lead on the broader effort to electrify our transportation sector. New York has set an ambitious and forward-thinking goal of phasing out sales of gasoline-powered automobiles with 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2035 and we need more projects like these to help us reach our nation-leading climate and carbon emission reduction goals."
National Grid is partnering with companies, like PlugIn Stations Online, to increase the number of charging stations across the State.
“We recently launched one of the largest EV programs in the country outside of California, with a target to install 16,000 EV charging station ports in upstate New York,” said National Grid Regional Executive Laurie Poltynski. “The program will fund up to 100% of the electric infrastructure costs associated with new EV charging stations like those here in the Town of Bethlehem. We are working closely with our local communities, NYSERDA and vendor partners to make owning an EV as practical as possible.”
National Grid provided more than $46,000 in funding for the stations in the Town of Bethlehem that were installed by PlugIn Stations Online.
Passenger vehicle chargers are a big part of the changing energy landscape. National Grid is also working with the major Transit Authorities in upstate New York to convert city buses to electric. Here in the capital region, the company has been working with the CDTA who has installed 4 charging stations for the first electric buses to hit the road in Upstate New York, and are partnering with them to plan large-scale electrification of 25% of their fleet by 2025.
Electrifying trucks and buses are pivotal to reducing emissions from transportation. National grid is supportive of New York’s participation in a 15-state agreement which sets a goal for 100% of truck and bus sales to be electric by 2050.
Doreen M. Harris, NYSERDA President and CEO, NYSERDA said, “We are proud to support a more sustainable lifestyle for residents and businesses in the Town of Bethlehem by improving infrastructure to make driving electric more accessible to all. Together with National Grid and our local partners we are helping the Town continue its commitment and action as a designated Clean Energy Community, lowering carbon emissions and creating a greener place to live.”
“PlugIn Stations Online is proud to have been one of the main partners with the Town of Bethlehem, NYSERDA and National Grid to install a new ChargePoint CT4021 EV charging stations. These stations are capable of delivering up to 25 miles of range for every hour of charging,” said John Doran, Owner of PlugIn Stations Online. “As the adoption of electric vehicles continues to accelerate across New York, towns and villages like Bethlehem, along with PlugIn Stations Online, are working hard to build out the infrastructure necessary to continue the movement to electrified transportation.”
