National Grid Named Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality

News-Image

WALTHAM, MA – National Grid US has received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. National Grid has earned this designation for three consecutive years and five times over the last decade.

"I am so very proud of us for achieving the score of 100 yet again on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, and most importantly, of the countless LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies who work tirelessly for this to be a reality,” said Natalie Edwards, Global Chief Diversity Officer, National Grid. “Every year, we seek to get better and better, and while we have a long way to go, we are proud to celebrate how far we have come."

“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere. Congratulations to National Grid for achieving the title of ‘best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality’ and working to advance inclusion in the workplace.”

The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars, which are non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility. The full report is available online at www.hrc.org/cei.

National Grid provides equitable and inclusive benefits to all employees, covers sexual orientation and gender identity in Equal Employment Opportunity policies, and supports an Employee Resource Group (ERG) called PRIDE, which is a resource to LGBTQ+ employees and allies. The PRIDE ERG focuses on building safe spaces and communities of support for LGBTQ+ employees through year-round events, Pride Month celebrations and community giving/partnerships. The PRIDE ERG is one of 16 groups that aim to foster a culture of inclusion at the company.
