HICKSVILLE, N.Y.National Grid will conduct two virtual public meetings on March 3, 2022, to review the Southeast Suffolk Project which is an on-system project largely completed last year to reinforce the existing network to ensure safe reliable service for Long Island customers.  The public meetings are part of a process approved by the New York State Public Service Commission for independent assessment of certain projects as a condition to cost recovery.

The Southeast Suffolk Project is a reliability project specifically designed to ensure required system operating pressure to maintain safe and reliable service for customers on eastern Long Island (east and south of Riverhead). Phase 1 of the project consists of installation of approximately 1.6 miles of main, a regulator station and associated distribution facilities, that work has been largely completed.  The gas main portions were placed in service in September 2021 and the regulator station was placed in service in February 2022.

Reinforcing the existing network is needed to safely serve customers while transitioning to a clean energy future.  National Grid continues to pursue demand-reducing initiatives in support of the State’s energy policy goals. The company is on track to meet or exceed its performance metrics in energy efficiency, demand response and non-pipe solutions.  Information on National Grid’s energy efficiency and weatherization programs is available at: https://ngridsolutions.com/.

The three-year investment plan approved by the New York State Public Service Commission on August 12, 2021, identified a set of on-system infrastructure investments, including the Southeast Suffolk Project, designed to enhance reliability and address the recognized supply/demand gap in the downstate New York region.  The investment plan outlines an approved assessment process including review by an independent consultant, working at the direction of the Department of Public Service staff, to determine cost for certain projects.

As part of this assessment process, National Grid will conduct two virtual public meetings on Webex to provide a presentation on the Southeast Suffolk Project and receive public comment.  Attendees must call in for audio and join the Webex for video:
