Rudy Wynter, President, National Grid New York joined Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, and Adrian Benepe, President, Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the Greenest Block in Brooklyn event to recognize residential and commercial blocks and community gardens for their greening efforts.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Greenest Block in Brooklyn has several award categories, including the National Grid Leadership in Sustainable Practices Award. Nehemiah Ten Greenthumb Block Association Community Garden in East New York was selected among six finalists in the category. See a video below of Wynter presenting the award to the Nehemiah Ten Greenthumb Block Association Community Garden.
The Leadership in Sustainable Practices award goes to a block or community garden engaged in a highly visible ecological practice such as use of sub-irrigated planters, rainwater capture, found materials “upcycling,” companion planting, drip irrigation, community composting, or gardening for pollinators and other wildlife.
Supporting this Brooklyn Botanic Garden leadership award is one of the many ways National Grid is working with community partners to build more sustainable and equitable communities. The company has presented the award since 2013.
