National Grid Employees Volunteer More than 600 Hours Across Massachusetts During Inaugural Week of Service

WALTHAM, MA – National Grid New England last week celebrated a successful inaugural Week of Service. From September 11 through September 15 more than 200 National Grid employees volunteered over 600 hours of their time to organizations across Massachusetts.
As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves, employees volunteered with organizations in Boston, Dorchester, Easton, Grafton, Harvard, Jamaica Plain, Newton, and Worcester.
Event highlights included:
- Promoting environmental stewardship and protection through beach cleanups with Save the Harbor/Save the Bay in Dorchester
- Supporting veterans and their families with landscaping at a Veterans Inc. housing development in Worcester
- Preparing nutritious, medically-tailored meals for homebound individuals at Community Servings in Jamaica Plain
- Sorting and packing critical winter clothing items for children throughout Massachusetts at Cradles to Crayons in Newton
- Refreshing indoor and outdoor spaces, and preparing STEAM materials, at the Children’s Museum of Easton
- Preparing gardens in Grafton and picking and sorting 5,200 pounds of apples in Harvard with Community Harvest Project
- Unpacking pallets and assembled food bags at the American Red Cross Food Pantry in Boston
- Weeding the lawn and preparing it for the seeding process along the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston
- Installing new fencing to ensure the sheep flock remain contained with the Greater Worcester Land Trust in Worcester
- Landscaping at Salisbury House with Preservation Worcester
- Organizing and executing a community wide clean up along Main Street in Worcester with Worcester Green Corps

National Grid's Week of Service is part of its newly launched “Grid for Good” program, a larger companywide corporate responsibility and impact initiative that supports the communities it serves through volunteerism and charitable contributions to organizations that focus on workforce development and STEM education, economic opportunity and social justice, and environmental stewardship and sustainability. This year, National Grid has a goal of to engage colleagues in more than 14,500 hours of service throughout Massachusetts.
In addition to volunteer service, National Grid has plans to further its commitment to the community through financial support. Through Grid for Good, National Grid will contribute more than $4 million in funding to organizations that align with its three responsibility and impact pillars:
- Workforce Development and STEM education
- Economic opportunity and social justice
- Environmental stewardship and sustainability - Focusing on historically underrepresented and overburdened communities.
In addition to Grid for Good in Massachusetts, National Grid has a companywide commitment to 500,000 employee volunteer hours by 2030, outlined in its renewed Responsible Business Charter.
