The Nassau County Stand Down was a huge success again this year. The Nassau County Annual Veterans Winter Stand Down was hosted by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, the event welcomed over 500 hundred Veterans who were in line at the Freeport Armory in Freeport to participate and receive services and general needs items.
National Grid was one of many companies and organizations across Long Island that participated. National Grid and PSEG Long Island partnered with the Northport based charity General Needs to supply Veterans with coats, shoes, socks and personal items. National Grid volunteers helped by unloading trucks and distributing clothes and personal items to each Veteran.
“National Grid knows the importance of giving back to our nations heroes who have given so much for our country, since we have so many Veterans in our workforce,” said Brian Sapp, Director of External Affairs Long Island, National Grid. “We are proud to partner with Nassau County, the General Needs organization, and PSEG Long Island to support this Stand Down event. We distributed new coats, boots, socks, and other essentials resources to keep our Veterans safe and warm this winter.”
National Grid’s Season of Giving campaign is part of the Companies Project C initiative, commitment to communities that involves employees volunteering, distributing food and providing donations to local community organizations.
The Veterans walked away with bags of food and clothing and a variety of resources free-of-charge.
The Company supported the Suffolk County Stand Down event in August.
