WALTHAM, MA – National Grid employees in Massachusetts kicked off the company's annual Season of Giving with volunteer events across the Commonwealth. From helping to address food insecurity to supporting children in the family foster care system, throughout December employees will partner with several community organizations and initiatives that support our friends and neighbors this holiday season.

“Our teams live and work in the communities we are privileged to serve. This Season of Giving we’re showing our gratitude by partnering with local organizations to volunteer and make a positive impact in the lives of our neighbors and friends. Our employees exemplify National Grid’s deep commitment to our communities,” said Melissa Lavinson, Head of Corporate Affairs, New England at National Grid. “We are a purpose-driven company and recognize that with the privilege we have to serve more than 240 towns and cities across Massachusetts comes a responsibility to give back and be a partner for progress.”

These volunteer efforts are part of “Grid for Good,” a larger companywide corporate responsibility and impact initiative that supports the communities we serve. Through Grid for Good, National Grid will contribute at least $4 million in funding to organizations that align with its three responsibility and impact pillars -- (1) workforce development and STEM education, (2) economic opportunity and social justice, and (3) environmental stewardship and sustainability – with a focus on historically underrepresented and overburdened communities.

2023 Season of Giving Volunteer Events:

  • Wonderfund – National Grid employees are supporting a heartwarming toy drive, bringing joy and festive cheer to over 100 children through the Hyde Park Department of Children and Families office.
  • Stone Zoo – National Grid is committing 200 tickets to the ZooLights Exhibit at the Stone Zoo to families and organizations in the region including the Lynn YMCA, Mystic Valley YMCA, and Stoneham YMCA Academy.

  • Greater Boston Food Bank - National Grid employees will join the Greater Boston Food Bank in Boston packaging food to be distributed to those experiencing food insecurity across Eastern Massachusetts. This initiative complements National Grid’s significant 400,000 meal contribution to GBFB.
  • Ron Burton Training Village - On Wednesday, December 6th, National Grid employees will stuff more than 200 stockings to make the Christmas season bright for Ron Burton Training Village children and their families.

As part of the company’s Responsible Business Charter, National Grid has committed to amassing 500,000 volunteer hours by 2030. That includes 14,000 volunteer hours achieved in 2023 in Massachusetts to date.
