NORTHPORT, NY – National Grid Ventures (NGV) employees are supporting families in Riverhead, NY by donating holiday gifts to 70 children. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program takes donations of games, toys, crafts, electronic equipment and clothing, and is designed to assist families facing financial burdens during the holidays. NGV’s contribution was nearly $20,000.

“Working with the Riverhead Salvation Army is becoming a tradition for our team in our generation facilities and we are thrilled to participate again this year to help families in need,” said Will Hazelip, President of National Grid Ventures US Northeast. “The holidays are an important time of year, especially for children. The Angel Tree offers an opportunity for us to fill a child’s wish list and make the season memorable for every family.”

Since 2022, NGV has partnered with the Riverhead Salvation Army to distribute school supplies as part of the annual Salvation Army Back to School Supply Drive. Employees donated nearly 50 backpacks to help students in the community receive the supplies they need to start the academic year off right.

“Thank you to our friends at National Grid Ventures and all employees for their generosity to area families who we serve,” said Lt. Esther Togara of the Riverhead Salvation Army. “The donations support our mission to be a tool for good and are helping us bring joy to many children this holiday season.”

The Salvation Army Angel Tree program provides holiday gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. For more information on ways to donate and volunteer on Long Island, please visit https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/greater-new-york/.

In addition to supporting the Riverhead Salvation Army, NGV also made a $1.5 million community benefit payment to the Town of Riverhead, which the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has designated a disadvantaged community, to support community programs for health and welfare, environmental protection, agriculture and open space protection, wireless internet for Riverhead public school students, and job promotion and training. In a joint venture with NextEra Energy Resources, NGV provided the benefit to the Town in conjunction with building and operating the Calverton Solar Energy Center in Riverhead.
