Queens, NY – National Grid  sponsored the York College Executive Leadership Breakfast (ELB), featuring a conversation on employee well-being with  Monica Alston, the company’s Vice President of Safety, Health & Environment.

York College ELB series provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable career insights and advice. The event aims to nurture the next generation of leaders.

“National Grid is deeply committed to investing in the well-being of our communities, providing support through education and workforce development,” said Monica Alston, Vice President of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), National Grid New York. “We are proud to partner with York College in empowering students to pursue their academic and career aspirations, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide paths for success, to create a brighter future for all.”

Another highlight of the breakfast was a scenario-based presentation by National Grid’s health and safety team. The presentation emphasized the comprehensive care and support systems the company has in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees, underscoring National Grid’s dedication to fostering a culture of inclusive support and empowerment.

In a demonstration of its ongoing dedication to education and community support, National Grid also presented $10,000 to the One York Emergency Relief Fund. The contribution will provide need-based aid for students, so that they can focus on completing their coursework without interruption. National Grid was an early sponsor of the One York Emergency Relief Fund in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Because of your investment, futures get to take flight for our first-generation students, students, who represent 56 percent of our enrollment population, who thought a college degree was not for them, and students with disabilities,” said Dr. Claudia V. Schrader, Interim President, York College. “And they are lifting Queens, New York City, and New York State as they do.”

The York College Executive Leadership Breakfast serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. As National Grid continues its mission to drive positive change and support the development of the future workforce to drive a smarter, stronger, cleaner energy future, the company and its employees remain steadfast in making a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and local communities where they work and live.
