National Grid has provided $50,000 to the Roswell Park Community Outreach and Engagement Center, which will use the money to expand local program offerings in areas of outreach, cancer education and patient engagement.
The center, located at 907 Michigan Ave. in Buffalo, seeks to advance and improve health outcomes for communities across Western New York. Among the initiatives are cancer awareness, educational programs, cancer screenings, financial wellness programming and space for community gatherings.
“We are grateful for the support that National Grid, its community grants division and their employees have shown toward the much-needed work being done here at 907 Michigan,” said Elizabeth Bouchard, MA, PhD, Senior Vice President and Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement in the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control. “Our mission is to build partnerships and deliver services to reduce the cancer burden among the people and communities we serve, especially for those most in need, and National Grid is ensuring that the work we are doing will continue to be supported in the future.”
“It’s vital to connect with our communities and make a difference for our neighbors, for whom we strive to do more than just provide reliable, quality electricity service,” said National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa. “Improving lives by increasing access to important services and information is one way that we can positively impact the neighborhood around 907 Michigan Ave. Since its opening, the Community Outreach and Engagement Center has provided tremendous value. National Grid’s grant represents more than just an investment in the facility, as it also is an investment in the people who will continue to benefit from all that they have to offer.”
Open since October 2023, the space has welcomed more than 7,000 community residents to take part in any one of the hundreds of community activities, events, lectures and health and wellness initiatives. Additionally, the COE provides a place for residents to use computers equipped with internet access, printing stations and private spaces with video and phone conference capabilities.
