Team National Grid hit the Field of Dreams for our nation’s heroes.
Twenty National Grid employees laced up their cleats and took the field in Massapequa as part of the Shootout for Soldiers lacrosse fundraiser, benefiting U.S. veteran programs. Not only did Team National Grid show up—they won. National Grid proudly served as both sponsor and participant in this powerful 24-hour event.
“With so many veterans living on Long Island, it’s important that we show our continued support and appreciation for those who have served,” said Ross Turrini, US Amry Veteran and COO of Gas New York at National Grid. “Through events like this—and many others throughout the year—we ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.”
Shootout for Soldiers is a nationwide initiative that uses lacrosse as a platform to support American veterans and strengthen local communities. Open to men’s and women’s teams of all ages and skill levels, the event has raised more than $1.5 million since its founding in 2014. This year’s Long Island event alone raised over $100,000 for veteran-focused charities.
“It was a great night supporting veterans and getting so many National Grid employees on the field,” said Bryan Gray, Army veteran and National Grid team organizer. “With many of us being veterans or still serving in the reserves, we understand the importance of events like this. We had a great time, raised money to support our fellow vets, and I’m proud to work for a company whose leaders truly value our service.”
Funds from the event benefited several veteran organizations, including:
- The Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund
- The Air Force Association (AFA)
- The Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund
- The Warrior Ranch Foundation
National Grid extends its sincere thanks to the Shootout for Soldiers organization for creating such a meaningful event, and to the dedicated charity partners who continue to serve our nation’s veterans. National Grid volunteers over 400 hours a year towards Veterans events and supports several Veteran organizations including United Veteran Beacon House, General Needs and the Nassau and Suffolk Stand Down.
