National Grid New York has received three Edison Electric Institute Emergency Response Awards, recognizing the company’s exceptional response for storm recovery efforts during the first half of 2025.

The company’s Upstate New York division earned recognition in EEI’s Recovery category. National Grid was cited for our restoration efforts for three different events in February and March 2025:

  • A February 2025 winter storm in parts of Central and Eastern New York that began on Feb. 16 with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain, later transitioned to lake-effect snow and gusty winds— reaching up to 65 mph—and caused extensive tree and line damage. Nearly 102,000 customers were affected by the event.
  • A March 2025 thunderstorm packing high winds caused significant damage across Upstate New York. The storm, which struck on March 16, affected more than 71,400 customers, the majority -- about 42,000 customers – of which were in the Central New York region. The storms included wind gusts of up to 72 mph, and quarter-sized hail.
  • A March 2025 snow and ice event that affected parts of Northern and Eastern New York, causing tree and line damage. More than 40,000 customers were affected by the storm, which struck on March 29.

National Grid’s emergency response efforts included hundreds of line, service and safety workers, fleet personnel, forestry experts, field supervisors, and management employees.

“We are extraordinarily pleased that EEI has recognized the outstanding emergency response efforts of our field crews,” said Sally Librera, President of National Grid New York. “These awards are a testament to the tireless work of our National Grid crews and their unwavering support of the communities we serve. In the face of extreme emergencies, our teams always rise to the challenge; not just to restore power, but to restore hope. We are deeply honored by this recognition and remain committed to standing with our neighbors through every storm.”

Presented to EEI member companies twice a year, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI’s fall Board of Directors and Chief Executives meeting.

“America’s electric companies and their dedicated workforces work tirelessly throughout the year to strengthen the energy grid and to restore power—and peace of mind—for American families and businesses after extreme weather events and natural disasters,” said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney.
