Brooklyn, NY – More than 60 organizations representing over 1.4 million New Yorkers have signed on in support of the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project, reflecting growing statewide consensus on the importance of reliable, affordable energy for New York’s economic future.

The sign-on letter– endorsed by 63 labor, community, and business organizations representing a collective 1,470,000 members – highlights the critical role that infrastructure investments like NESE play in supporting working families, small businesses, and new industries, as well as the vital role that the project will have in economic growth for the entire state.

Signers include labor organizations such as the New York State Building Trades Council, and IBEW Locals 97 and 1049; community groups such as United Way of Long Island, United Jewish Organizations, Vision Long Island, and the Island Harvest Food Bank; and business leaders such as the Partnership for New York City, CenterState CEO, the Long Island Association, Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

This coalition of supportive voices represents a diverse cross-section of New Yorkers across various sectors and industries, working together to ensure that New York’s energy future remains reliable, affordable, and sustainable.

“Increased gas supply from the NESE pipeline will bolster reliability for essential energy needs in Brooklyn, Queens, and on Long Island, while freeing existing gas supplies to better serve our customers on Staten Island and in Suffolk County,” said Sally Librera, President of National Grid New York. “This added capacity is not only vital for meeting growing energy demand, it also has the potential to save New Yorkers up to $6 billion in electricity costs, with nearly half of those savings directly benefiting residents of New York City and Long Island.”

Energy demand in New York is expected to rise 50 to 90% by 2042, driven by electrification, new industries, and population growth. NESE would expand natural gas capacity by 13%, providing stability for homes and businesses and helping to keep energy costs affordable.

The project is also projected to create over 3,100 direct jobs and generate more than $23 million in GDP, supporting thousands of good-paying union and skilled trades positions across sectors like construction, manufacturing, healthcare, and real estate development.

This latest show of support builds on the strong momentum from community, labor, and business leaders who previously applauded the Public Service Commission’s decision on National Grid’s Long-Term Gas Plan.

Supporters describe NESE as a core part of practical, forward-looking energy planning. “Reliable, affordable energy is essential to sustaining New York’s economic growth, protecting working families, and ensuring healthy, thriving communities,” the letter reads. “By enhancing system reliability during peak demand and extreme weather events, NESE will help ensure that no family or business is left without heat or power when it matters most.” The Public Service Commission recently acknowledged the need for NESE by approving National Grid’s Long Term Gas Plan, which included reliability projections based on the increased energy supply from the project.
