National Grid’s Successful Season of Giving Delivers Support to Long Island Communities Through Grid for Good

National Grid employees across Long Island concluded a highly impactful Season of Giving as part of the company’s annual Grid for Good initiative. Through partnerships with local community organizations, employees donated toys, coats, meals, and essential supplies to support neighbors in need throughout the holiday season. Grid for Good is National Grid’s corporate responsibility initiative that reflects the company’s deep commitment to the communities it serves.

Building Stronger Communities—One Act of Kindness at a Time
This year’s Season of Giving delivered meaningful support across Long Island through:
- Toys: Donations benefiting pediatric patients and children in need through organizations including Good Samaritan Hospital Pediatric Center (Catholic Health), Bay Shore YMCA, and the John Theissen Children’s Foundation.
- Meals: Financial support, food drives and meal distributions to several food banks including: Island Harvest, Feeding NY, Long Beach Latino Civic Association and Long Island Cares.
- Warm Clothing & Essentials: Distribution of coats, hygiene items, and household necessities to veterans and families living in shelters, in partnership with General Needs and other community groups.
Key Volunteer Events and Community Partnerships (Season of Giving 2025)
National Grid employees organized and participated in numerous volunteer-driven activities, including:
- Island Harvest: Contributed $50,000 to address food insecurity on Long Island.
- Long Island Cares: Contributed $25,000 to support families across Long Island.
- Island Harvest Turkey and Trimmings Turkey Drive: Supported the Annual Turkey Drive to help families enjoy Thanksgiving meals, including a $10,000 contribution. Provided an additional $50,000 to Island Harvest to fight against food insecurity.
- John Theissen Children’s Foundation: Kicked off the Foundation’s island-wide toy collection supporting children battling cancer, contributing toys across Long Island’s 300 donation locations.
- ECLI-VIBES | Support and Empower Now: Helped distribute more than 6,700 pounds of food ahead of the holidays to families in need.
- Feeding NY: Donated and volunteers packed more than 2,500 Thanksgiving meals for Long Island families experiencing food insecurity.
- General Needs: Participated in the Veterans Stand Down event, distributing warm clothing, accessories, and resources to the veteran community.
- Long Beach Latino Civic Association: Provided Thanksgiving meals to more than 50 families in the Long Beach community.
- Keep Your Change: Volunteers packed and donated 500 hygiene products for individuals and families living in homeless shelters.
- Good Samaritan University Hospital | Catholic Health Long Island: Volunteers distributed toys to pediatric patients at Good Samaritan Children’s Hospital.
- NAACP Hempstead: Volunteers spread holiday cheer by adopting families and distributing toys to children in need.
- West Hempstead Civic Association: Participated in a community holiday event to provide joy and resources to local children.
- Backyard BBQ: Volunteers assisted with toy distribution and children’s activity stations to ensure a smooth and joyful event.
- Toys for Tots Drive: Employees donated toys to support the holiday initiative hosted by the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association.
- Compassion Champions: Donated warm-weather accessories, baby clothing, hats, gloves; Moonjumpers donated over 200 toys to families living in shelters.
- Great South Bay YMCA: Donated gifts, including video games, to support the after-school teen program.
- American’s VetDogs: Donated supplies to support kennel operations and the care of service dogs assisting veterans.
Community Leadership and Youth Engagement
In addition to holiday giving, National Grid employees supported youth leadership development by serving as volunteer judges for the Ready. Set. Lead. High School Business Competition at St. Joseph’s University, challenging students to solve real-world business scenarios.
