National Grid Ventures Raises $11,000 to Fight Childhood Cancer and Benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation

NORTHPORT — National Grid Ventures today announced it raised $11,000 to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s mission to end childhood cancer, during a charity breakfast event at Northport Power Station. National Grid Ventures employees shaved their heads in solidarity with patients and donated their hair to a charity that creates wigs for patients.
Barber Joseph Matt of Barber Chops in Massapequa, known for its chance wheel of bad haircuts gave the haircuts. Hair from long-haired volunteers will be donated to Wigs for Kids. The charity provides wigs to children suffering from many forms of hair loss, including due to chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
“We believe in acting as a force for good in all that we do, and this event is one more way we’re able to bring our community together and support a worthwhile cause while strengthening our ties with local residents,” said Jim Flannery, Chief Operating Officer of National Grid Ventures. “I’m proud to have been part of today’s event, and to be able to raise this money in support of St. Baldrick’s, underscoring our commitment to good corporate citizenship.”
Employees at E.F. Barrett Power Station in Island Park also held an event on March 12, joining their colleagues in getting “bad haircuts” and ultimately shaving their heads to support and raise money for childhood cancer patients.
National Grid is a committed partner to the communities where it operates, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars of direct funding and goods to support charitable organizations and community nonprofits.
