National Grid is a longtime supporter of the Food Bank of Central New York, providing time and funds to address hunger and food insecurity in central and northern New York. During a recent visit to the organization’s distribution center in Lysander, National Grid made a $10,000 donation to provide boxes of food to children at schools across central and northern New York. A group of National Grid employees also volunteered at the facility that day packing boxes of food for distribution.

“National Grid has partnered with the Food Bank of Central New York for a number of years in the fight against hunger and food insecurity,” said Alberto Bianchetti, regional director of customer and community engagement for National Grid. “Supporting neighborhoods and communities is a key pillar of Project C, a reaffirmation of National Grid’s commitment to the places we live and work. But, more than that, providing a link between nutritious food and those who have difficulty feeding themselves and their families is way for us to serve the most basic needs of our customers.”

In addition to the financial donation, company employees gave a few hours of their time in the warehouse, boxing more than 4,500 lbs. of fresh vegetables for distribution in the community.

Food Bank of Central New York serves as the main food distribution hub for hundreds of partner agencies that comprise the emergency food network in its region across central and northern New York. The Food Bank provides more than 22.5 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 18.7 million meals – to hungry families, children, and elderly every year.

In September, National Grid employees packed hundreds of boxes with food that was delivered to schools throughout Food Bank’s service area for distribution to students. Earlier in 2021, Food Bank received a $25,000 donation from the National Grid Foundation.
