WALTHAM, MA – National Grid has been selected as a recipient of the Boston Business Journal’s 2023 Business of Pride Corporate Ally awards, which honors companies in the Greater Boston area that are dedicated to advancing the well-being of the LGBTQ+ community through their mission, innovation, impact, and sustainability.

Through the Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG), National Grid has worked to support and empower its LGBTQ+ colleagues, allies, friends, and families by leading countless internal and external programs, initiatives, and education resting on four key pillars: community, commerce, careers, and culture.

To form meaningful community relationships and partnerships that enable employees to act and give back to the communities they serve, during this year’s pride month National Grid has been a proud supporter of impactful organizations, such as Camp Beyond Binary and The GenderCool Project, and is currently engaging with Boston Pride for the People.

“Our people are what make National Grid such a great place to work, and I’m so proud of the work our 500-member-strong Pride ERG has done over the last 15 years to empower the LGBTQ+ community and drive an inclusive workplace culture,” said Stephen Woerner, President of National Grid, New England. “They’ve achieved tremendous success in fostering an environment where all National Grid employees can feel safe and empowered, and we have plans to sustain and grow these vital efforts into the foreseeable future.” Pride month is a time for celebration, remembrance, reflection, and recommitment. National Grid is honored to have been named a 2023 Corporate Ally by the Boston Business Journal.

National Grid aspires to be among the most inclusive, diverse and equitable companies and believes that creating the right environment to allow everyone to be their whole, authentic selves and to thrive is essential to a successful business. The Company includes pronouns in email signatures, features safe space stickers on desk areas and laptops, and begins meetings with diversity, equity and inclusion moments. These efforts have also extended to its customers. National Grid’s US Customer and Information Technology departments made improvements to the Customer System, allowing customers to select their chosen pronouns and chosen name.

National Grid is also a sponsor of Out & Equal, the premier organization working exclusively on LGBTQ workplace equality, and through this sponsorship, the Company has learned and adopted industry best practices to make the National Grid workplace as inclusive as possible. The Pride ERG has partnered with National Grid’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team to launch initiatives focusing on full-scale DEI training and workforce development and training middle managers to lead, coach, and support their teams inclusively.

Since its origin in 2007, the Pride ERG has aimed to link its efforts and initiatives with the impact made across the LGBTQ community through partnerships like The LGBT Center in NYC, Out 4 Undergrad, ROMBA, and more.
