1 Important Alert(s)

Summer Safety

As the temperature increases, use these tips to beat the heat & stay safe:

  • To maximize the cooling effect of an air conditioning system, run fans to create a wind-chill effect to distribute and circulate cold air throughout a room.
  • Keep your window coverings closed to reduce the sun's heating of your home.
  • Know the signs of heat-related illness: Heavy sweating, muscle cramps, and a fast pulse are symptoms of heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Tree Safety During Storms

If your electric service has been interrupted, there are four ways to report downed electric wires:

  1. Call 1-800-465-1212
  2. Text* OUT to 64743

Storm Restoration

During storms, our crews are focused on cutting and clearing trees from our lines to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. While we will remove broken utility poles and damaged electrical equipment, homeowners are responsible for removing all broken and/or damaged trees and limbs resulting from the storm, including those that National Grid removes from our facilities to expedite service restoration.

Important Note: During or after any storm event, consider all downed wires to be energized and dangerous—including telephone, fiber optic and cable wires. They may be in contact with energized electric wires that are not within view. To report downed electric wires, please call 1-800-465-1212.

Neither National Grid nor its contractors will remove damaged trees from residential or commercial buildings. The owners of these facilities are responsible for choosing their own qualified contractor to perform the work.

Hiring a qualified contractor for tree work near power lines

Tree removals and pruning near service lines to your property should be done by an electric-qualified tree contractor, who employs workers specifically trained to work within 10 feet of electrical hazards.

If hazards to your service are present or you are planning to prune or remove trees near high-voltage wires, you may request that National Grid disconnect your service entrance wire temporarily from your home for your contractor.

Please contact Customer Service at 1-800-322-3223 at least five days in advance of the work. A forestry department representative will visit your property to assess the potential for any safety hazards or outage risks.
