More than 300 people attended Electrify Buffalo 2.0, a National Grid-sponsired community event that kicked off National Drive Electric Week.

The Sept. 24 event was hosted by Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), which has been deploying EV infrastructure across its campus for the last 10 years and currently provides 54 EV charging stations to advance the adoption of electric vehicles.

As they did last year, attendees learned from more than two dozen area companies whose exhibits and displays shared information about electric vehicle products, new technologies and various uses of electric vehicles, including public transportation, construction and recreation.

Early last week Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz signed a proclamation designating Sept. 24 to Oct. 2 as Drive Electric Week in Erie County. In the proclamation, which affirmed Erie County’s commitment to being a leader in clean energy and establishing policies and programs that conserve energy and promote sustainability, Poloncarz called upon county residents to join him in “supporting the aims and goals of this worthwhile effort.”

Drive Electric Week in Erie County coincides with National Drive Electric Week, which also runs Sept. 23 to Oct. 2.

“We are delighted to partner with National Grid to host this event highlighting some of the leading technologies and vehicles in the electric transportation arena,” said Matt Enstice, President and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. “Working to promote and spur uptake of these sustainable technologies has been a priority at both our organizations for many years and events like this play a significant role in showing the public how far this technology has come.”

“Electrify Buffalo once again provided an opportunity for residents from around the area to learn more about electric vehicles, technology related to them and work that top local companies are undertaking as we transition to a clean energy future,” said National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa. “National Grid and Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus have worked together to install the area’s first EV charging stations and, as part of our long-standing partnership, will continue to work on a variety of clean energy initiatives.”
