National Grid will be upgrading the natural gas system on Madison Avenue in Albany. Construction work will take place on Madison Avenue between South Swan Street and New Scotland Avenue and on Willet Street between Madison Avenue to Hudson Avenue. This project will help maintain the reliability of your local natural gas infrastructure.

National Grid is upgrading the natural gas system on Madison Avenue in Albany. Work will consist of excavation of the roadway, installation of new infrastructure, temporary restoration of the roadway, testing of the new infrastructure and final restoration of the roadway.

The Madison Avenue project is currently scheduled to start in Spring 2026. We anticipate completing construction in Fall 2026. Please check our News and Updates page for the latest information on construction progress!

We are making investments to upgrade the infrastructure system in your neighborhood to ensure customers continue to receive safe and reliable gas service.

As part of service upgrades along the project route, you may experience a service interruption. Our crews will contact you to inform you of the outage if applicable and to schedule relighting of appliances as necessary.

Traffic will be impacted during construction in the work area. Our crews will have traffic flaggers on site to assist with maintaining a smooth flow of traffic. Please check our Updates page for the most recent information.

While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will undoubtedly be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment to trench ahead of pipe installation.
