About the Project

National Grid continuously evaluates opportunities to enhance the reliability of its energy delivery networks. In the coming months, we’ll be working on a project in Brooklyn, NY to Install a remote-controlled valve (RCV) at the corner of Bedford Avenue. This will allow us to quickly shut down the main, stop gas flow, isolate and shut down portions of the system. This will also enable us to mitigate further damage; servicing and keeping as many gas customers as possible. The principal driver for the installation of this RCV is the PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) Mandate.

Construction work will include roadway and sidewalk excavation, installation of new equipment and support, pressure testing, backfill, and restoration. Traffic changes and parking restrictions will apply during construction. For your safety, please stay away from the construction site and pay attention to signs around the work area.

Project Benefit:

  • Updating our infrastructure provides increased reliability and enhances our ability to serve our customers better throughout Brooklyn, New York service territory.
