D-156 Refurbishment Project
Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and is expected to be completed by January 2027. The initial work that will begin in 2025 will include vegetation management and site preparation activities.
Work will take place in Southborough, MA, within an existing utility right-of-way. The project spans from National Grid’s substation on Northborough Road to south of Nichols Street. Along this route, crews will cross several streets in Southborough, including:
- Northborough Road
- Main Street
- Lynbrook Road
- Deerfoot Road
- Parkerville Road
- Middle Road
- Cordaville Road
- Latisquama Road
- White Bagley Road
- Boston Road
- Nichols Street
This project is designed to enhance the safety, capacity, and reliability of the region’s transmission system. It will replace aging infrastructure, improve communications with the installation of new optical ground wire (OPGW), and ensure the grid is resilient to meet future energy needs.
No. There are no planned service interruptions associated with this project.
You may notice increased truck traffic and material deliveries in areas near the right-of-way and substations. At certain road crossings or access points, temporary lane closures or police details may be used to ensure public safety.
In general, the trails will remain open to the public and work will occur nearby. In cases where the trails need to be temporarily closed to complete work safely, clear signage will be posted on-site to inform the public.
