About the Project

National Grid continuously evaluates opportunities to enhance the reliability of its energy delivery networks. PL-E12 is a significant natural gas supply line for the Glens Falls / South Glens Falls area. The E12 Hudson River crossing was originally installed in 1953, and sections have been undermined over time. National Grid is in the process of replacing and modernizing this infrastructure and expects completion in fall 2025.

During February 2025, National Grid and its crews performed extensive tree removal work along the South Glens Falls side of the river, near the Betar Byway. A segment of the vegetated area was infested with invasive species, including the Porcelain Berry plant, which has identified by the Nature Conservancy as a threat to spread into the Adirondack Park.  National Grid employed proper removal and disposal techniques to remove this plant and contain its spread along the byway.

Construction on the replacement of natural gas infrastructure between the Village of South Glens Falls and the City of Glens Falls is scheduled for mid-April 2025. Crews will be working in the vicinity of Second Street, Riverview Street, and the portion of the Betar Byway located on National Grid property on the South Glens Falls side of the river. Work on the Glens Falls side will be in the vicinity of Murray Street and Finch Paper property. Work will be performed Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and will be completed fall of 2025. There will be no interruption to the gas service for our customers.
