Arrears Management Program (AMP)
If you’re behind on your energy bill, we’re here to help. The Arrears Management Program (AMP) can make it easier to stay on track with current payments while reducing your past-due balance. If you’re enrolled in a discount rate and have a balance of $200 or more that’s over 60 days past due, AMP can help you eliminate that debt over time.
How AMP Helps
With AMP, you can:
- Lower and manage your monthly payments
- Gradually reduce your past-due balance over time
- Qualify to have up to 100% of your past-due balance forgiven (up to $12,000 per year)
How It Works
- Set a Monthly Payment
We review your billing history and create a predictable monthly payment based on your average usage. - Stay Current Each Month
Pay your monthly amount on time each month to remain in the program. - Earn Balance Forgiveness
Each time you make a payment, a portion of your past-due balance is forgiven, helping reduce what you owe.
Example:
- Your past-due balance is $1,200
- Your monthly payment is $150
Each month you pay $150 on time:
- $100 of your past-due balance is forgiven
- Over time, your balance continues to shrink until it’s fully cleared
Who Is Eligible?
You may qualify if you:
- Are a National Grid residential customer in Massachusetts with an active residential gas or electric account
- Have an account balance of $200 or more that is at least 60 days past due
- Are enrolled in the Discount Rate Program (R2 or R4)
- Have not participated in AMP within the last 3 months
- Commit to making your monthly payments on time
Note: If your service has been shut off, a down payment may be required to enroll.
