Protect Yourself from Scammers

Scams related to the COVID-19 outbreak are on the rise. Imposters claiming to be National Grid employees may contact you to collect past due balances, even promising a savings on your next bill or threatening to disconnect your service. We never demand direct payment through the use of a prepaid debit card and we never accept payment through these cards.  Find out more.

Hurricane Safety and COVID-19

Even as you continue precautions to keep yourself and your family safe from coronavirus (COVID-19), it’s also important to stay prepared for potential weather extremes. With hurricane season under way June 1‒Nov. 30, now is the time to make sure you have the latest information and a solid plan in place. While hurricanes are most active in September, don’t wait to make sure you’re prepared and protected.

Ready.gov/hurricanes provides detailed information, updated to include precautions regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Review and update your evacuation plan to incorporate ways to maintain social and physical distancing, to protect yourself and others.

Our field employees are required to strictly follow CDC recommendations intended to protect themselves and our customers from Coronavirus (COVID-19). 

When visiting your home or business, our field employees WILL:

  • Avoid handshakes
  • Ask that every person on your premises maintains a personal distance of 6 feet or more at all times.
  • Ask that anyone on your premises who is or may be ill remains in a separate room apart from the area where our representative will be performing service work.
  • Wear disposable latex or nitrile gloves to prevent contact with possible contaminated surfaces.
  • Wear a face covering. 

If someone in your home is ill or quarantined:

  • If anyone in your home is ill or quarantined, please advise our field representative BEFORE allowing entry. Please note: To protect our workers and our other customers, your service visit may be delayed or rescheduled. We appreciate your cooperation.
  • Inside your home, our field representative will wear disposable latex or nitrile gloves to prevent contact with possible contaminated surfaces.

If it is necessary for our field workers to enter a customer’s premise for emergency or essential response, we ask customers to advise us if anyone in the home is ill or quarantined BEFORE allowing entry.

Similarly, if a customer is quarantined or sick and calls us for an emergency or essential service, we ask that the customer advise us about the health conditions ahead of time. Our agents will work with the customer to determine best course of action.

If it is necessary for our field workers to enter your premises for emergency or essential response, our employees will:

  • Avoid handshakes.
  • Ask that every person on the premises maintains a personal distance of six feet or more at all times.
  • Ask that anyone on the premises who is or may be ill remain in a separate room apart from the area where our representative will be performing service work.
  • Wear disposable latex or nitrile gloves to prevent contact with possible contaminated surfaces.
  • Wear a face covering. 

We have implemented additional measures that will allow us to safely continue providing essential services. Our field employees are taking precautionary measures and are required to strictly follow CDC guidelines, including:

  • Frequent handwashing and use of sanitizer
  • Avoiding touching mouth, nose and eyes
  • Keeping a safe distance from anyone self-quarantined or sick
  • Staying home if they are sick

We will continue to closely monitor this situation, review and adjust our policies and ways of working as necessary, and will keep the lines of communications open with our employees, customers and all stakeholders.

The company has implemented the following employee-related actions, which will remain in place as we continue to closely monitor the pandemic:

  • Limiting external meeting attendance and external visitors at National Grid facilities to operationally critical activities that are required to deliver gas and electricity to our customers.
  • Restricting travel between National Grid office locations, except for operationally critical activities.
  • Stopping all international business-related travel.
  • Elevating the level of cleaning and disinfecting at all company facilities.

If you are quarantined or sick, and you call us for a service order or to report a natural gas leak or other emergency, we ask that you advise us about the conditions ahead of time. We have measures in place that will allow us to continue providing essential services to you.
