Corrosion Inspection

We are committed to delivering safe, reliable natural gas to the customers and communities we serve. As part of that commitment, we are required by the State of New York to perform gas pipeline corrosion inspections every 10 years, even on pipes or meters located indoors.

This corrosion inspection is one of several safety checks we conduct regularly to maintain our infrastructure. It is separate from other inspections – such as the Leak Survey or Service Line- that you may have recently experienced.

What to expect?

  • The inspection is at no cost to you and takes about 10 minutes.
  • A National Grid technician will need access to your home or building if the meter and piping are indoors.
  • Unless immediate repairs are needed, there will be no interruption to your gas service.
  • We may need to return to your premise to retest and/or remediate the piping if our reading detects an issue with the corrosion protection.

Any contractor doing work for National Grid is required to carry ID. If someone requesting entry into your home or place of business does not show an ID card, don’t let that person in and call your local law enforcement.

Frequently Asked Questions
