How to Read Your Bill

Every National Grid bill gives a breakdown of exactly what you are being charged. Review this sample bill and compare it to your own.

Payment Agreement Electric Bill - Page 1Billing period refers to the service dates between meter reads. In other words, the day when your meter was read marks the end of a billing period and the beginning of a new billing period. A billing period typically ranges from 27 to 33 calendar days.Your account number is unique to your premise. If you are a National Grid customer with multiple premises, each premise has its own unique account number. Treat your account number as confidential information.This is the dollar($) amount owed to National Grid. What are my payment options?This section lists the payment programs you are enrolled in and your monthly payment. Failure to make the agreed payments, can lead to payment default, and possible service disconnection.This section lists all payment programs you are enrolled in, and the status of said programs. For example Payment Agreement, Budget Plan etc.This is the dollar amount you owe from past bills. If you stay current on your "Payment Agreement" amount, this dollar($) amount will disappear over the agreed period of time.This section shares important information about your account, e.g. payment received, budget plan amount recalculations etc. Click here to view your account and enable notifications.If a payment was not received within the billing period reflected above, the dollar ($) amount will be added to your new balance - which will be reflected in your amount due.This section gives a summary of your "Delivery" charge plus your "Supply" charges. To understand how Delivery and Supply works, view our video.This is how much you owe for energy consumed within the billing period. This dollar($) amount is different from your total amount due (above) because you have previous unpaid balance(s) that has been broken down into installments and added to your monthly charges. When you fulfill the terms of your payment agreement (pay off the balance), the number in this section will start to match the dollar amount in "Amount Due" section above. You'll be in good standing.This chart shows your usage in the past year. Each alphabet indicated the 1st letter of the month. Example: "D" = December, 2018 "O" = October, 2019This is your average daily energy consumption and cost.An Actual or Estimated Read is based on our ability or inability to obtain a read off of your meter. Estimated read is based off of the average usage for the same period last year.
