News and Updates
2026
Beginning on May 11th, we will be evaluating the new infrastructure and preparing the system for final approvals and restoration. This process will take approximately three days and will involve increased overnight noise. We share this in advance to let you know what to expect during this phase, and we appreciate your patience during this important work.
Following this the evaluation, expect crane activity on site within the first two weeks of June. 31st Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue will be temporarily closed to all traffic while the crane is in use. Traffic flaggers will be on site to assist and direct local traffic.
Our team will take steps to reduce disruptions and minimize impacts while prioritizing the safety of our crews and the community. For your safety, please be mindful of construction activities and do not enter work zones.
There will be no interruption to service for our customers.
Thank you for your continued patience as we progress down 31st Street. To date, our team continues to weld the remaining sections approaching 3rd Avenue. There will be tacked plates to cover those sections.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to complete this phase safely and efficiently.
- Noise: There will be noise when vehicles drive over the plates. (Especially buses, trucks, garbage trucks, and any heavy machinery)
- Traffic Flow: There will be intermittent road closures or detours to ensure the safety of this work.
For your safety, please do not enter work zones and be mindful of work zones during and after construction hours.
Beginning the week of May 4, 2026, there will be a generator onsite to support critical de‑watering operations. To safely and effectively complete this work, the generator will operate continuously, including overnight hours, for approximately 72 consecutive hours, from May 4 through May 7, 2026.
Please note that noise from the generator will be minimal and limited to a low, steady hum, and will not resemble the noise levels typically associated with regular construction activities. The de-watering measures will not create a disturbance, and our crews are taking steps to minimize the potential for noise impacts to the community whenever possible.
If you do have questions regarding these overnight activities, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Project Engagement Team directly at (516) 855-7608 or box.BK.projects@nationalgrid.com.
