FAQs: Elmont RCV Project

The project is scheduled to begin in May 2023 and finish in December 2023. An updated construction schedule will be posted online every week, so check ngrid.com/elmontrcv for updates.

Construction will be in the roadway area and the sidewalk of Makofske Avenue, between Herbert Avenue and Marguerite Avenue.

This project involves installing new underground vaults and equipment, including a remote-control valve. We will also be installing new vent poles and telemetry cabinets.

We feel it’s important to upgrade our local energy distribution system whenever possible. We want to make sure our Elmont customers continue to receive safe and reliable energy service, especially during the heating season.

Yes. Safety is our top priority. That includes the safety of our customers, the general public, and our employees and contractors. The professional construction firms we work with also place safety as their top priority.

No. This work will be managed so that our service will not be interrupted at all.

Traffic on Makofske Avenue will be impacted during work hours.  Our team is working with the Town to ensure the safety of the streets and mitigate traffic issues as best we can. If necessary, detour signs will be posted near streets and a traffic flagger will be on-site during construction hours.

No.  Most of the work will take place within established utility corridors .

While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment and sounds from trucks backing up.
