Frequently Asked Questions

The first part of construction includes upgrading the existing infrastructure within the sidewalk and roadway area beginning near Little Clove Road and heading east on Narrows Road N. Once that work is complete, crews will begin upgrading critical infrastructure within the vicinity of Dekalb Street, Rhine Avenue, and Richmond Road to increase safety and reliability. Crews will then make their way back west on Narrows Road N to Little Clove Road.

The work involves excavating the sidewalks and roadways to upgrade existing infrastructure.

We are making investments to reinforce the local distribution system in your neighborhood to ensure our Staten Island customers receive safe and reliable energy service. This project will build a more reliable local natural energy system by reinforcing local underground infrastructure.

Night work will take place in the vicinity of Dekalb Street, Rhine Avenue, and Narrows Road N to Cayuga Avenue to minimize traffic impacts and disturbances to the community. Night work hours are Monday through Friday 9PM-5AM*

There will be temporary road closures for project specific activities. During normal construction activities, roads will remain open to local traffic only. Traffic flaggers will be on-site to assist pedestrian and vehicular traffic as necessary.

No. This work will be managed so that service interruption will not be an issue.

Construction is expected to start in August 2023 and will continue through Fall 2024. Restoration of the area will occur in Fall 2024.

Traffic will be impacted during construction along the project route. Our team is working with the city to prioritize the safety of the community and try to best to mitigate traffic issues to the greatest extent feasible. Detour Signs will be posted on nearby streets and a traffic flagger will be on-site during construction hours to direct traffic as needed. Please use an alternate travel route if possible.

No. Our work is in the public right of way (ROW) in roadway and/or sidewalk areas. Every area we disturb, we will restore back to its original condition or better.

While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment to trench ahead of the infrastructure work.
