1 Important Alert(s)

Summer Safety

As the temperature increases, use these tips to beat the heat & stay safe:

  • To maximize the cooling effect of an air conditioning system, run fans to create a wind-chill effect to distribute and circulate cold air throughout a room.
  • Keep your window coverings closed to reduce the sun's heating of your home.
  • Know the signs of heat-related illness: Heavy sweating, muscle cramps, and a fast pulse are symptoms of heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Neighborhood Heating Fund

Program closed for the season.

Neighborhood Heating Fund is a National Grid program administered by HeartShare Human Services of NY to help qualified households meet their home heating needs. The fund opens annually in February and closes when the fund is depleted.

Eligible customers can receive one grant:

  • $500 for heating accounts
  • $250 for cooking gas-only accounts

To qualify for a grant, you must be a National Grid customer whose household meets the income guidelines of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

Customers may apply once per year when they have exhausted all HEAP assistance and have a current disconnect notice. This grant is only available to residents of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island who live in a 1-2 family house or pay for heat in their apartment. Applications are accepted until funds run out. For more information on how to apply, please call 1-718-422-4207, or visit the HeartShare Human Services of NY website.
