About the Project

We are continuously evaluating opportunities to enhance the reliability of our energy delivery networks. Beginning in May 2026, National Grid crews will begin an essential gas system reinforcement project in Bellmore / Merrick. The purpose of the Bellmore Upgrade Project is to maintain adequate system pressures during peak loads during the winter heating season. This project is expected be completed in Spring 2027.
Construction work will include roadway excavation, installation of new gas transmission main and associated piping and equipment, pressure testing, tie-ins to existing infrastructure, backfill and temporary road restoration. The Town of Hempstead will be handling full restoration of impacted roadways once our work is complete. Traffic changes and parking restrictions will apply near the work zone during construction. Excavations will be secured and plated during non-work hours. All construction work on Sunrise Highway will be night work 9PM to 5AM and work on Hewlett Ave, Newbridge Road, Albermarle Avenue and Johnosn Place will be done during daytime hours. For your safety, please stay away from the construction site and pay attention to signs around the work area.
Project Benefit:
This project will improve reliability of our energy service, especially in the event of an outage in Merrick and Bellmore, NY.
