In the next couple of weeks, crews are scheduled to begin tie-in activities. This work will take place primarily at two intersections: the corner of Johnson Pl and Wilson Ave in Bellmore; and the intersection of Hewlett Ave and Benson Ln in Merrick. There will also be a crew presence on Seneca Dr as part of this work. Tie-ins are an important project milestone, as they connect the newly upgraded infrastructure to the existing network. 

For your safety, please do not enter work zones and be mindful of construction during and after work hours. As a reminder, parking is prohibited near work zones, and roadways are closed to through traffic while work is in progress.

Once the upgraded infrastructure is tied-in, crews will begin to backfill and restore all impacted roadway and/or sidewalks. This project remains on track to be completed in Fall 2026. 

As part of the final stages of construction, there are two key activities that must be performed. First, crews will perform quality assurance tests of the upgraded infrastructure. Followed by tie-in activities which connects the upgraded infrastructure to the existing infrastructure. 

The Bellmore Upgrade Project has two tie-in locations. One at the intersection of Johnson Pl and Wilson Ave, and another at the intersection of Hewlett Ave and Benson Ln in Merrick. Crews are currently excavating both tie-in pits and this excavation work is expected to be completed on or about 10/02/26. Work hours are M-F 7AM – 4PM. Once excavation is finished, crews will secure and plate the tie-pit until the upgraded infrastructure is ready to be connected in November. For your safety, please do not enter work zones and be mindful of construction during and after work hours.

Beginning Tuesday 9/8/26, National Grid crews will be returning to complete work on Albermarle Avenue during daytime hours, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This work is part of the Bellmore Upgrade Project, which will help strengthen the local gas system and maintain reliable service during high demand of the winter heating season. Work on Albermarle Avenue is expected to take 1-2 weeks to compete, with final restoration of the roadway expected this fall. There will be no impact to National Grid service to customers.

Crews will be excavating in the roadway using heavy equipment. Once work is complete for the day, all excavations will be secured and plated to allow for normal traffic patterns to resume.

Be mindful of traffic flaggers and posted signage and leave extra time when traveling. For your safety do not enter work zones.

In early September, crews will be excavating on Newbridge Road between Sunrise Highway and Albermarle Avenue, and on Hewlett Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Benson Lane during daytime hours: 7 AM to 4 PM. This work will take one to three days to complete and will include the use of heavy machinery including an excavator.

Once all upgrade work is complete, Johnson Pl., Albermarle Ave, Newbridge Rd, and Hewlett Ave. will be fully repaved in Fall of 2026.

The Bellmore Upgrade Project will begin construction on Monday, June 1st, starting with excavations for main replacement work at the intersection of Johnson Place and Wilson Avenue. Main replacement work will continue south down Johnson Place to Albermarle Avenue, and continue west down Albermarle Avenue to Newbridge Road. This main replacement work is expected to be completed in three to four weeks, and will be done during daytime hours, between 7 AM and 5 PM. There will be no parking on either side of the street close to the work zone. Crews will coordinate with residents for driveway access.

Once work on Albermarle Avenue is complete, crews will shift to Sunrise Highway (westbound only). All construction on Sunrise Highway will be night work: 9 PM- 5 AM.
