In the coming weeks, crews will be replacing over 2,800 feet of gas main and upgrading 80 individual customer service lines along Hempstead Avenue between Broadway and Morris Avenue in Malverne.

This project will help strengthen our natural gas system to ensure safe and reliable delivery. We anticipate the project to run from January 2026 through April 2026. The project will contain three phases.

1st phase - gas main installation: During this phase, crews will be installing the new gas main in short sections along Hempstead Ave. This installation will be performed during night-time working hours, between 9:00 p.m to 6 a.m. The excavation will be temporarily restored at the end of each work day.

2nd phase  - Gas service upgrades: During this phase, each individual customer service line along Hempstead Avenue will be upgraded. The upgrade will be scheduled in advance with the home or business owner.   Entrances to the home or business will be maintained.

3rd phase  - Final restoration: During this phase final restoration of the roadway and sidewalk will take place. This will be the final phase, and this project will be considered complete after restoration.
