FAQs: Lorimer Street Upgrade
The project is scheduled to start in April 2026, with expected completion in Summer 2026. Regular construction updates, including any schedule changes, will be posted on this project website.
Primarily in the right-hand turning lane of Meeker Avenue which leads to Lorimer Street, and in the concrete lane divider. There will also be some work on the west side of Lorimer Street, at the intersection of Meeker Avenue. Both roads will be open to traffic during work hours. Flaggers will be on site to safely assist motorists and pedestrians around the work zone. Excavations will be secured and plated during non-work hours.
Our crews are replacing an aging section of gas transmission main, replacing associated piping in the surrounding blocks, and installing a Remote-Control Valve (RCV) to improve the reliability of our energy delivery network.

No. This work will be managed so that service interruption will not be an issue.
This work will be completed in phases, with the first phase expected to begin in April 2026 and be completed in Fall 2026. Construction will pause for the winter, resume in Spring 2027, with phase two expected to be completed in Fall 2027. Restoration of impacted roadway and sidewalk areas will occur once construction work is complete.

Yes. Meeker Avenue and Lorimer Street will remain open for traffic, but parking will be restricted on Lorimer Street near the work zone in order to maintain one lane for travel. Flaggers will be on site to mitigate traffic issues to the greatest extent feasible and safely guide pedestrians around the work zone. Excavations will be secured and plated during non-work hours. Periodic temporary road closures for specific construction activities may be necessary.
No. This work will take place within established utility corridors.
While our crews will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment.
