Summer Targeted Dispatch

Your business can reduce seasonal peak electric demand.

During periods of high energy demand, the grid is sometimes stretched to its limit. The grid and the number and size of power plants must be sized to meet this peak load. By reducing electric use for a few hours during a few days per year, we can reduce emissions, infrastructure costs, and utility prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Targeted Dispatch option is designed to hit the peak hour every year. However, no forecast is perfect. So, we usually must call more than one event per summer, and events need to be 3 hours long. We will minimize event calls as much as our forecasts will allow. We will never call more than 8 events per summer. These events will be between the hours of 2 PM and 7 PM, on weekdays. Events will never last more than 3 hours.

The Winter Dispatch program is designed to reduce the demand on the electric system on the coldest winter days. The program will call 5 Winter Dispatches each winter, and each event will last 3 hours.

Customers can reduce their energy consumption by turning off unnecessary lighting, appliances, and equipment. Additionally, consider raising the temperature of central air conditioning systems in the summer and lowering the temperature of heating systems in the winter. The Curtailment Service Provider you select will work with you to determine which strategy fits your situation.
