MA Bill Relief Program

We understand that managing higher electric bills alongside other rising expenses has been challenging. Earlier this winter, electric bills were temporarily reduced through a $180 million relief effort funded by the Healey-Driscoll Administration. From February 1, 2026 through March 31, 2026, electric rates were lowered by 25% to help offset the sustained cold weather and higher energy use. This adjustment was made in coordination with our regulator. The bill reduction is now concluding as we head into spring.

Here's how it will appear on your bill:

  • Residential electric customers received a 25% bill reduction in February and March. The "MA Winter Bill Relief" credit will be applied to delivery and supply charges and will be prorated based on the number of February and March service days in your billing cycle. (Please see our FAQs for more details).
  • Depending on your electric usage, the credit could reduce February and March electric costs by approximately $60 each month*.
  • 15% of the electric bill reduction will be funded by the Commonwealth. The remaining 10% will be recovered on your bill from May through December, with an estimated monthly amount of approximately $5 - $6*.
  • The bill relief credit will be labeled "MA Winter Bill Relief" within the Delivery Services section of your bill.
  • Because billing cycles often span two months, these credits may appear on bills received in February, March, April, or May, depending on your billing dates.
  • Customers who receive a Discount Rate - including the new Heat Pump Rate - or any form of financial assistance will continue to receive their full discount or benefit in addition to the winter bill relief credit.
